DIALOGUE

Friends’ testimonies lead to the need for open communication within our community. At Friends, THE PRACTICE OF DIALOGUE means engaging in deep and active listening, patient attention, and thoughtful exchange of ideas. We should consider restraint in the use of voice, physical presence or authority in order to avoid dominating the discussion, including the impact of our words and actions on others. Disagreement may be fruitful and does not always imply disrespect. It is our hope that out of dialogue will come greater creativity and an increased sense of community.

How do we maintain open discourse and value respectful dissenting voices?

How can I make sure that the voices of others are heard?

How do we balance the need for prompt, practical action with reflective decision making?
